WebThe regiment was formed as part of the Childers reforms on 1 July 1881 by the amalgamation of the 71st (Highland) Light Infantry and the 74th (Highland) Regiment of Foot as the city regiment of Glasgow, absorbing the local Militia and Rifle Volunteer units. WebThe Highlanders’ Museum is situated within the Historic Scotland site, Fort George, a working army barracks just outside Inverness. The Museum tells the story of the Highland Regiments from just after the Battle of Culloden to the present day. The Museum is located in the former Lieutenant Governors quarters, a prime position in the Fort.
